Congratulations to the Anaheim Ducks

While the Senators put in a decent effort, they were clearly outclassed by the Ducks in this year’s Stanley Cup final. Jean-Sebastien Giguere would have been my choice for the Conn Smythe trophy, but I’m not going to argue with the choice of Scott Niedermeyer for MVP.

I cheered for the Sens for the series but one of the things I enjoyed about the Ducks’ championship is to see Brian Burke lifting the Cup over his head. I’ve always appreciated his blunt talk and intelligent insights into the game in interviews. I was impressed with his leadership during his days in Vancouver having to deal with the Todd Bertuzzi incident and was similarly impressed with his interview with Ron MacLean tonight in the way that he paid tribute to his players, the opposition, and, really, everybody.

The only thing that marred the game for me tonight (other than Ottawa’s collapse) was that the first post-game interview that Hockey Night in Canada did was with Chris Pronger.

But tonight the glory goes to the players on the Anaheim team. Congratulations.
